China encourages its enterprises to invest in Ethiopia, expand human resources development and cooperation, and promote construction of transportation infrastructure and supporting projects.

Based on mutual respect, China-Ethiopia relationships are very ancient.
Chou-En Lai visited Ethiopia for the first time in 1964. Diplomatic relations were established a few years later (1970).
With the coming into power of the Derg regime (1974-1991), the intensity of bilateral relationships significantly increased. During this period, a number of agreements were signed, including the following
Since 1991, Ethio-China ties have continued to strengthen. High level visits are more and more frequent. Recently, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali met Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing (September, 2018).

Chinese investments in Ethiopia
Over the past 10 years (2008-2017), Chinese firms completed almost 600 investment projects in Ethiopia, creating more than 190,000 jobs. More than 2/3rd of these projects were in the manufacturing sector.
